Description

Sept. 20, 1938. w. J. GRUBB TIE AND COLLAR goLDER Filed Dec. 6, 1937 M; M 6 w W ATTORN EYS Patented Sept. 20, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 4 Claims.
This invention relates to necktie and collar holders, and its general object is to provide a combined device of that character for use with folded type collars and four-in-hand ties, that a 5 is not only ornamental, but performs a dual funcmoved in any easy and expeditious manner is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and extremely efiicient in operation, use and service.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying' drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure l is a front view illustrating one form of my device in use.
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the form as shown in Figures 1 and 2.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 44 of Figure 3, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 5 is a perspective View of the parts of the form as shown in Figures 1 to 4 inclusive, separated from each other.
Figure 6 is a plan View of a modified form.
Figure '7 is a similar view of another modified form.
Figure 8 is a similar view of a further modified form.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the letter A indicates a. collar of the usual folded type and it may be stiff or soft, but in any event in the form as shown, it includes pointed flaps. The tie which is indicated by the letter B is of the four-in-hand type, and is knotted as at C in the usual manner.
Each of the forms of my invention as illustrated, is used in the same manner, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, and the form of Figures 1 to 5 inclusive includes a body bar I curved from end to end. to the same degree throughout its length.
Formed on or otherwise secured to the body bar I midway its ends and extending outwardly at an angle of approximately forty-five degrees with respect thereto, is the shank 2 of a pin 3 which is preferably round in cross section and terminates in, a penetrating point as shown. Fixed to the pin 3 is a collar 4, for a purpose which will be presently described. Cooperating with the body bar I is a clamp bar 5 that has formed thereon and extending laterally from midway the ends thereof an ear 6 that is slotted or notched at its outer end as at I, and the ear is adapted to be folded about the body bar midway its ends as best shown in Figure 4, with the shank 2 of the pin received in the notch 1, so that the shank cooperates with the ear 6 in fixing the clamp bar 5 tothe body bar.
The clamp bar is of waved formation to provide what may be termed clamping arms 8 that terminate in outwardly flared outer ends 9, and the clamping arms at their juncture with the outwardly flared ends are held in contacting engagement with the body bar, as best shown in Figure 3. It is obvious that the clamp bar 5 is formed from resilient metal, and the same may be true with respect to the body bar, but in any event the bars I and 5 cooperate with each other to receive the flaps of the collar as shown in Figures 1 and 2, with the flaps clamped between the same to hold the fiaps evenly spaced in fixed relation with respect to each other. When the bars are so arranged the pin 3 is directed at an upward angle with respect thereto, to penetrate the knot C of the tie, with the knot resting upon the collar 4 which acts as a stop or abutment means therefor, consequently it will be seen that the knot is held supported at a proper angle with respect to the collar and evenly between the flaps to present a neat appearance and against any possibility of displacement.
In the forms as shown in Figures 6 to 8 inclusive, it will be noted that the body bars and clamping bars thereof are integral, and referring particularly to the form of Figure 6, the body bar I is curved in the same manner as the body bar I as well as has a shank II of a pin I2 formed thereon and extending midway its ends at an angle of approximately forty-five degrees. The shank I I has secured thereto an abutment or stop collar I3 for the tie knot, and the clamp bar I4 is fixed to the body bar by web portions I that bridge the same. The major portion of the clamp bar 54 is straight, but the outer ends are outwardly flared as at [6 in spaced relation with respect to the ends of the body bar, to provide guides to facilitate the application of the holder to the collar, as will be apparent.
The form of Figure '7 also includes a body bar 41 that is curved throughout its length and has formed thereon the shank I8 of a pin I9, with an abutment or stop collar 20 formed on the shank to receive the knot. In this form, the clamp bar 2| is connected with the body bar I1 by a relatively thick body portion 22 that is formed on the.
bars midway their ends and the clamp bar from the body portion 22 is inclined toward the body bar to engage the same, but the outer ends of the clamp bar are outwardly flared, as shown.
In the form of Figure 8, the body bar 23 is likewise curved and has formed thereon a shank 24 of a pin 25, the shank likewise having secured thereto an abutment or stop collar 26. The clamp bar 21 of this form is curved or held in curved position for disposal parallel with the body bar 23 and is connected thereto by a body portion 28.
The outer ends of the clamp bar 21 are looped upon themselves as at 29, with the looped portions disposed in contacting engagement with the body bar 23 adjacent the ends thereof. The body portions 22 and 28 may have openings 30 therethrough, as shown. 7
It is obvious that the forms of Figures 6, '7 and 8 are applied to the collar and tie in the same manner as the forms of Figures 1 to 5 inclusive,
and the shanks of each of the forms may be either round or square in cross section, while the body and clamp bars are substantially thin and flat, so as to set up a positive clamping association with the collar flaps, as will be apparent. The body bars may be decorated or'have ornamental matter thereon, and the holders in their entirety may be made from any kindof metal or other material suitable for the purpose.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and: in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A combined folded collar and knotted necktie holder comprising a body bar, a clamp bar cooperating with the body bar to provide clamping means for the flaps of the collar, a knot receiving pin secured to the body bar and extending at an inclinedangle therefrom midway its ends, an ear formed on the clamp bar and having a notch therein, and said ear being wrapped about the body bar with the pin received in the ear for cooperation with the latter to secure the clamp bar to the body bar.
2. A combined folded collar and knotted necktie holder comprising a body bar, a resilient clamp bar secured to and cooperating with the body bar to provide a clamping means for the flaps of the collar, outwardly flared ends for the clamp bar and spaced with respect to the ends of the body bar to provide guide means for the flaps, a pin including a shank formed on the body bar midway its ends and a penetrating point for passage into the knot of the tie, an abutment collar fixed to the shank to provide a rest for the knot, and said pin extending at an inclined angle with respect to the body bar.
3. A combined folded collar and knotted necktie holder comprising a curved body bar, a clamp bar cooperating with the body bar to provide clamping means for the flaps of the collar, web members integrally connected withthe bars for securing the same together, a pin including a shank formed on the body bar and adapted to penetrate the tie knot, and an abutment formed on the shank intermediate of the length thereof for engagement with the tie knot to maintain the latter in adjusted position on said shank and spaced from said bars.
4. A combined collar and knotted necktie holder comprising a body bar, a resilient clamp bar secured to and cooperating with the body bar to provide clamping means for the flaps of the collar, ofiset ends for the clamp bar engaging the ends of the body bar to provide guide means for the flaps, a pin including a shank formed on the body bar midway its ends and a penetrating pointfor passage into the knot of the tie, an abutment collar fixed to the shank to provide a rest for the knot, and said pin extending at an inclined angle with respect to the body bar.
