Abstract

615,283. Windscreen wipers. TRICOFOLBERTH, Ltd., and BAYES, C. A. July 30, 1946, No. 22708. [Class 138 (i)] The wiper blade of a windscreen wiper is so attached to its actuating arm, which arm is mounted on an oscillatable spindle, as to be sweeping through a greater angle than that swept by the. arm, and the blade is urged into a central position in alignment with the arm by means of a spring of hairpin-like form of which the bridge is connected to the end of the arm and the free ends are engaged in a sleeve which is attached to the blade. The metal holder 2 of a wiper blade 1 is attached to the wiper arm 3 by means of a flat pin 6 passed through the bore of a resilient grommet 5 secured in an aperture of an extension 4 of the arm, the holder being loosely engaged by the pin to allow sideways swinging of the blade at the end of each stroke, and also turning movement about the pivot 6. A hairpin spring 10 has a raised bridge portion 9 passing through a hook 8 on the extension 4, and two free ends 11 secured between the holder 2 and a sleeve 14 embracing it. Towards the end of each stroke the blade abuts the edge of the screen and pivots out of alignment with the arm to lie along the edge of the screen, and during the next stroke the spring 10 returns the blade and arm into alignment, the tension of the spring being adjustable by sliding the sleeve 14 along the holder 2.
