Abstract

615,192. Windscreen wipers. TRICOFOLBERTH, Ltd., and BODDY, J. Aug. 2, 1946, No. 23133. [Class 138 (i)] Means for attaching a windscreen wiper blade to its actuating arm comprises a grommet, of resilient material such as rubber, mounted in a slip attached to the wiper blade, and a pin fixed to the arm or an extension thereof and provided with means whereby it can be releasably connected to the grommet by introduction into the bore thereof. The clip 4, Figs. 1 and 3, engages in a slot 8 in the blade holder 2, and has an aperture 7 engaging a peripheral groove in the grommet 9. The pin 11 has an enlarged head 12 to prevent accidental displacement but which permits it to be forced out by deformation of the grommet to release the arm. A spring 13 attached to the pin has pairs of ears 14, 15, each pair engaging against opposite sides of the holder 2, whereby the blade, while allowed limited pivotal movement about the pin 11 if it meets an obstruction such as the edge of the windscreen, is urged into alignment with the arm on clearing the obstruction. The pin may be of any suitable shape, such as circular or flat, and may be provided with projections to grip the grommet more securely. Instead of one slot 8, two smaller slots may be provided, in which case the clip has projecting tongues which are passed through the slots and bent over.
