Abstract

667,253. Windscreen cleaners. TRICO PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Jan. 4, 1950 [Jan. 8, 1949], No. 238/50. Class 138 (i). A windscreen wiper comprises an elongated flexible 'squeegee blade unit and a holder unit therefor attachable to an actuating arm, in which the holder unit comprises a pressure distribuing yoke connected to the squeegee at longitudinally spaced points and other pressure distributing members resiliently and yieldably support the squeegee from the yoke at other longitudinally spaced points. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 a yoke 8, connected by a clip 7 to an actuating arm 3, is connected at its opposite ends to a rubber wiper blade 16, by means of blade-straddling ears 20, formed on the yoke ends and provided with slots or seats 19 to pivotally and loosely engage lugs 18 extending from the opposite margin of a blade backing strip 17 of light spring metal. Pivoted at 11 to the yoke are rigid links 10 which pivotally and loosely engage at their free ends with other lugs 18 on the strip 17, these ends also being provided with ears 20 and slots 19. Flat springs 13 each anchored at one end at 14 and engaging at their opposite ends in apertures 15 in the links 10 press upon each link and thereby place a resilient urge on the underlying blade portion. The two springs for both levers may comprise but a single spring as shown in Fig. 1. The blade unit 16, 17, may be slidably engaged or disengaged from the holder unit by relative longitudinal movement between the blade and the holder. The blade is secured in engagement with the holder by means of a latch pin 21, Fig. 4, yieldably projecting through the backing strip 17 which engages in a recess 22 formed in a flange 23 turned under one end of the yoke 8. The blade may be detached from the holder by depressing the pin 21 by means of a tool inserted through an opening 24 in the yoke and then sliding the blade longitudinally relatively to the holder. In another embodiment the yoke 8 is relatively shorter than that of the first embodiment and the links pivoted thereto extend outwardly beyond the ends of the yoke so that the yoke supporting points are between the link supporting points.
