Abstract

615,364. Windscreen wipers. TRICOFOLBERTH, Ltd., and PYNE, H. B. July 31, 1946, No. 22847. [Class 138 (i)] Means for attaching a windscreen wiper blade to its actuating arm comprises a grommet 6, Fig. 2, of rubber or other resilient material which engages a clip 3 attached to the blade 1, and is releasably connected to a cover 10 fixed to the arm 13, by means of a pin 11 passed through holes in the cover and through the bore of the grommet. The clip has an opening 4 through which the grommet can be forced to engage the clip within a peripheral groove, and is fixed by projections 5 to a U-shaped holder 2 holding the blade, which comprises a number of strips of rubber or the like. The grommet has two extensions 8 which project beyond the edge of the blade on either side to allow limited tilting of the blade, which can also swivel about the axis of the pin. The pin has an enlarged end provided with cross-slots so that it can be forced through the holes and spring outwards to be secure. In another form, Fig. 6, the clip 3 has no entrance aperture, and a rubber washer 17 is inserted in its central aperture, separate pieces 16 corresponding in shape to the outer surfaces of the grommet being placed on each side of the washer. Alternatively, the grommet may be in two parts, being divided centrally or in a plane through a side surface of the clip.
