Abstract

841,248. Windscreen cleaners. O'SHEI, W. E. June 27, 1956 [June 27, 1955], No. 18515/55. Class 138(1). A connector for a windscreen wiper blade and arm comprises a body or housing 1, Fig. 1, pivotally connectable at 4 with the blade and having a passage 2 to receive and closely fit the flat strip end of the arm 5, the connector having a shoulder 7 to cooperate with a shoulder (side of a notch 8) on the arm, and resilient means 6 to hold the shoulders in engagement. The housing 1 made as a metal die-casting or plastic moulding, has side walls 1a to closely embrace the braking member of the wiper blade (not shown) or a bridge piece (not shown) supporting the wiper blade, the walls being apertured at 4 to receive a transverse rivet passing through the backing member or bridge piece. Two shoulders or abutments 7 are struck-up from the sides of the resilient means in the form of a leaf spring 6, rivetted at 10 to the housing and having a finger piece 9. The shoulders 7 have inclined edges 7a whereby the wiper arm end can be snapped into the passage 2 and the shoulders 7 engaged in two notches 8 in the arm 5. Movement of the leaf spring 6 to release the arm 5 is limited by a stop 11 between the walls 1a. If desired there may be only one central abutment on the leaf spring to engage in an aperture or slot arranged along the centre of the arm end. Other forms of spring may be utilized.
