Abstract
725,492. Windscireen cleaners. BOSCH GES., R. July 7, 1953 [July 10, 1952; May 29, 1953], No. 18750/53. Class 138 (1). A windscreen wiper has a blade 2, Fig. 1, widened along its back edge to form an integral longitudinal bridge portion 1 which faces the blade holding stirrup 5, which portion has a flat strip 3 passing through it to reinforce the blade against bending or flexing longitudinally of the blade substantially only in the direction of its swinging movement, and the ends of the strip 3 project from the ends of the portion 1 and are connected with the stirrup 5 by engaging in slots formed therein in a freely displaceable manner and with play sufficient to allow tilting of the blade from one to the other inclined position upon change of wiping direction. The blade 2, Fig. 3, is substantially T-shaped in cross-section and is embraced centrally with a certain amount of play by a U-shaped guiding stirrup 8 mounted below the stirrup 5. Between the stirrups 5 and 8 are mounted two leaf springs 6 and 7, the ends of which bear against the back of the portion 1. Referring to Fig. 4, slots 4 are formed in the down-turned ends of the stirrup 5 to receive the ends of the strip 3. These slots are each in the form of an X having fulcrum points 13 spaced at a distance which is slightly greater than the thickness of the strip 3, bearing edges 14, 14<SP>1</SP> and arcuate wider ends 15 to conform to the tilting radius of the strip 3. As the blade moves over the windscreen the ends of the strip will engage either the edges 14 or 14'. In another embodiment Fig. 7, only one fulcrum 13 is provided the bottom edge of the slot 4 being straight. In a further embodiment Fig. 8, the slot 4 is in the form of a rectangle. The slots allow of the blade being flexed for removal of the ends of the strip 3 therefrom and thus for the removal of the blade from the stirrups 5 and 8.
