Abstract

Class 138 (i) [Also in Group XXV] A connector for a windscreen wiper blade and arm comprises a connector body adapted to be carried by one of two parts respectively constituted by the arm and blade, and a member projecting from the other part, the projecting member being received and retained in a socket in the connector extending substantially at right angles to the windscreen when the blade rests thereon by a spring pressed member incorporated in the connector and adapted for movement substantially parallel to the windscreen. As shown in Fig. 1 a die-cast connector 14 is pivotally connected to a wiper blade backing 5, by a transverse pin 6, so that the blade is enabled to engage with the windscreen surface throughout its entire length. Apertures in the blade backing 5, through which the pin 6 passes, are large enough to enable the blade to rock on the pin within a U-shaped channel 17, formed in the connector, when the blade reverses its direction of movement over the windscreen, and thereby adopt a trailing position. The connector 14 is provided with a rectangular aperture or socket 7 to receive the inturned projection 12 on the end of a metal strip wiper arm 3. The projection 12 is provided with an aperture 20 which is interlocked with a protuberance 21 on a spring-pressed plunger 9 housed within the connector. The connector and blade may be rigidly secured together and the rocking action of the blade to a trailing position may then be facilitated by providing clearance between the sides of the projection 12 and the side walls of the aperture 7, so that the connector 14 can rock relative to the projection. Also the projection may be carried by the blade and the connector may be carried by the arm.
