Abstract

897,530. Windscreen cleaners. O'SHEI, W. E. Nov. 27, 1958 [Nov. 27, 1957], No. 37003/57. Class 138 (1). A windscreen wiper for wiping curved windscreens is provided with auxiliary mechanism which operates to pull an intermediate part of the squeegee element away from the surface of the windscreen and towards the wiper arm as the wiper blade moves from a less curved to a more curved zone of the windscreen. As shown, a wire or cord 8 is attached to one end of yoke 2 and passes through loop 9 and then along the wiper arm 5 retained by further loops 10, its end being attached to one end of double armed lever 11 pivoted to the wiper arm head at 12, the opposite end of the lever being actuated by a cam 13 on pillar 7 shaped to pull the wire at the desired times. Alternatively, the above system may be replaced by a mechanical linkage, an electromagnetic system, or the wire may be simply connected to a fixed point on the vehicle.
