Abstract

642,188. Windscreen-cleaners. TRICO PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Jan. 29, 1948, No. 2717. Convention date, Feb. 4, 1947. [Class 138(i)] In a windshield-wiper of the kind in which the wiper blade is carried by an arm whch is urged towards the windshield by a spring, the arm is subjected to the urge of a thermally responsive bi-metal spring. A bi-metal spring 8 comprising a steel strip and a brass strip suitably united, is anchored at 9 to one end of an outer arm section 5, pivoted at 4 to an inner arm section 3 mountable on an actuating shaft. The other end of the spring 8 bears upon a supporting member 10 on the section 3. In another embodiment the bi-metal spring may be placed by the side or superimposed above or below a normal blade spring so as to modify the functioning of the latter. In a further embodiment an electric heating element is associated with the bi-metal spring so that the driver may, by operating a switch, temporarily vary the pressure of the wiper blade on the windshield.
