Abstract
583,422. Windscreen cleaners. LUCAS, Ltd., J., FOXALL, H. H., and PURDEN, R. H. Oct. 25, 1944, No. 20759. [Class 138 (i)] The wiping arm b of a windscreen Cleaner is mounted on a shaft a which is driven from a power-operated sleeve e, which is mounted so as to be fixed axially, and is connected to the shaft a by a clutch comprising a pin g on the shaft engaging a slot h in the sleeve e. To disengage the power-drive, a fingerpiece q, which is normally stationary, is pushed inwards against the action of a spring p, and a gear-wheel o is moved into engagement with a wheel m on the shaft a which is thus moved so as to disengage the clutch, whereupon the shaft a can be actuated by the gears o, m to move the wiper to a parked position, or to effect a hand cleaning-operation. The electric power can be cut-off by a switch r operated by a member s on the shaft a. In a modification, the knob q is replaced by one which has to be pulled outwards to connect it to the shaft a, the connection comprising a friction clutch normally held inoperative by a spring, and the knob q is normally stationary when the wiper is oscillated by power.
