Abstract

493,243. Windscreen-cleaners. TRICO PRODUCTS CORPORATION, and HORTON, E. C. Dec. 4, 1937, No. 33648. [Class 138 (i)] Relates to windscreen - wipers driven from a moving part of the engine of the vehicle, and consists in clutch and transmission means which ensure that the drive shall be stopped with the wipers in parked position. A shaft 9 driven by the engine drives a speed governor comprising drums 11, 12 and centrifugallyresponsive shoes 13. The drum 12 carries a clutch member 15 co-operating with a clutch member 16 carried by a shaft 25 splined in a worm 33. The latter is connected to a flexible shaft 6 which operates the wipers. The worm drives, when the wipers are operating, a gear wheel 32 carrying a disc 31 provided with a recess 36. The clutch members are held in engagement by a spring 17, and are disengaged when the shaft 25 is moved to the right by a manual control 28 acting through a link 23, rack and pinion 20, 21, eccentric 18, and collar 24. A pull on the control 28 rotates the eccentric to engage the clutch and start the wipers. When the control is released, a spring 22 moves the link 23 so that a projection 35 engages the edge of the disc 31. When the projection drops into the recess 36, the spring 22 disengages the clutch with the wipers in parked position. The mechanism is disposed in a casing 7 secured to the engine unit remote from the windscreen.
