Abstract
271,183. Drewry, J. S., and Shelvoke & Drewry, Ltd. March 2, 1926. Driving auxiliary parts.-In a motor vehicle having one or more pumps or compressors actuated at will by the propelling engine, the vehicle driving gear is automatically locked when the pumps &c. are in operation and automatically released when the drive to the pumps &c. is disengaged. The invention is shown applied' to a motor vehicle provided with an air compressor and oil pump for charging the oil gears of aeroplanes and includes a special gear box 3 suspended at three points from transverse members 10 bridging the frame members of the chassis. The engine drive shaft 23 carries a sliding clutch pinion 32 operated by a clutch lever 33 to engage internal teeth 36 on a member 24 driving the wheels. With the clutch lever 33 in the position shown, the wheel drive is disengaged and locked by the engagement of the arm 38 on the clutch lever with external teeth 39 on tha member 24. The pinion 32 is now in engagement with a pinion 40 forming part of a wheel train geared to a driven shaft 5 which can be clutched either to a shaft 8 driving the oil pump 9 or to a shaft 6 driving the air compressor.
