Abstract

887,630. Windscreen wipers. ANDERSON, J. W. Aug. 2, 1960 [Aug. 31,1959], No. 26700/60. Class 138 (1). In a windscreen wiper blade assembly for cleaning a curved windscreen a leaf spring 57 secured to one end of the primary yoke 25 enters through a slot 56 in a secondary yoke 24, connected to the outer end of the wiper blade 21, to apply pressure to the rear of the blade at a point between the ends of the yoke 24. The pressure applied by the spring 57 prevents the blade portion connected to the yoke 24 from flexing away from the less sharply curved and flat portions of the windscreen, and the pressure is reduced when the angle A between the yokes 24, 25 decreases as the blade portion passes over the more sharply curved windscreen portion. In a modification the leaf spring carries pressure pads which bear against a resilient strip reinforcing the wiper blade, and in a further modification the leaf spring is connected by claws to such reinforcing strip.
