[Class 75 (iii)] A table lighter comprises a push button adapted, when depressed, to move the snuffer off the wick end and to compress a spring for rotating the flint wheel, a delayed action device for subsequently releasing the said spring to rotate the flint wheel, and means for returning the snuffer when the push button is released. When the operating button 9 on the plunger 8 is pressed down, a plate 12 compresses a spring C against a shoulder on a pin 7 and a spring D against a block 5 which guides a slide 10, which is engaged with a recess in the pin 7 by the action of springs E. Towards the end of its downward movement a cam portion of the plunger 8 moves the slide 10 to disengage the pin 7 which is moved suddenly downwards by the action of the spring C. The pivoted snuffer arm 4 is thereby suddenly rotated about its pivot 15 by the engagement of a forked member 6 with pins 16, and at the same time the flint wheel, which is also mounted on the pin 15, is rotated with the arm 4 by a ratchet in the form of a split washer spring. The pin 7 is maintained in its lowest position to keep the snuffer arm 4 open, by the engagement of the slide 10 with a shoulder above the tapered portion of the pin 7, whilst the plunger 9 is returned by the spring D. To close the snuffer arm the pin 7 is released by pressing a button 11. In a modification the button 11 is not included and the snuffer is closed as soon as the operating button 9 is released.
