685,361. Pyrophoric lighters. SHARMAN, H. M. May 24, 1948 [May 23, 1947], No. 13872/47. Class 75(iii) A pyrophoric lighter has a wick mounted in a tube movable in a sleeve mounted in the fuel casing and provided at its upper end with a lug formed integral therewith to enable the tube to be moved into or out of the operative position against friction or by spring action. The wick 3 is held in tube 7 slidably mounted in a sleeve 10 and provided with a thumb piece 8 at its upper end and a flange 9 at its lower end. In a modification shown in Fig. 5 the wick holder 7 is raised or lowered by an arm 16 operated by a lost motion mechanism 18. 19 and 20 when the wick closure member is moved to the 180 degrees position. In a further modification shown in Fig. 6 the rear end of the wick closure member, on movement to the open position, deflects a spring 25 to disengage a catch 23, formed on its forward end, from a lug 26 formed on the tube 7 whereupon the tube 7 is moved upwards by a spring 21.
