Abstract

739,513. Pyrophoric lighters. SCHMIDT METALLWARENFABRIK, GEB. Feb. 5, 1954 [April 21, 1953], No. 3523/54. Class 75 (3). A table lighter has a torch mounted on the end of a flexible member and a pyrophoric metal mounted on an upright side of the lighter body. The torch comprises a striker pin 6 surrounded by a sleeve 7 containing a wick 8 and is inserted in the side wall of a fuel reservoir 9 through an opening 5. The pyrophoric metal 11 is mounted in a holder 12 slidable in a guide 13 and pressed upwards by a spring 14. To operate the lighter the holder 12 is moved downwards by a knob 17 until lugs 18 on the holder 12 engage beneath lugs 19 on the lighter wall. The torch is then pressed against the metal 11 through an aperture 20 to deflect the guide inwardly to disengage the lugs 18, 19 so as to allow the spring 14 to move the holder 12 and the metal 11 upwards to a stop 15 in order to produce a spark between the pin 6 and the metal 11. The lighter is in the form of a minature petrol pump and the torch is attached to the end of an imitation hose 4.
