Abstract
616,558. Frictional lighters. THOMAS, A. P.L., and THOMAS ENGINEERS (BIRMINGHAM), Ltd., A. & L. July 5, 1946, No. 20117. [Class 75 (iii)] In a frictional lighter of the type in which the flint compression spring serves to maintain the snuffer in its closed and in its open position, the flint, the compression spring and the housing therefor are all contained within the body of the lighter. A pivot pin 17 on which the friction wheel 24 rotates and to which the snuffer 26 is secured is of square cross section and fits into openings 16 in upstanding arms 15 secured to the flint tube 19, the upper part of these openings 16 having horizontal flats against which a side of the square pivot pin 17 is pressed by the flint spring 21 when the snuffer is in the closed and open positions. The end of the snuffer 26 and the flint wheel 24 are so disposed that the snuffer can be opened and the flint wheel rotated by a single movement of the operators' thumb. The plastic body 10 of the lighter is provided with holes for the wick holder 12 and flint tube 19, the removal of the latter enabling the lighter to be refilled. The pivot pin 17 is slightly offset from the axis of the flint tube the lower part of which is of reduced diameter and provided with a spring adjusting screw 23.
