Abstract

616,079. Frictional lighters. COLIBRI LIGHTERS, Ltd., LOWENTHAL, J., and MOORE, C. W. Aug. 26, 1946, No. 25500. [Class 75 (iii)] In an automatic frictional lighter a cam surface 31 on a pivotally mounted thumb piece 29 engages with a roller 251 rotatably mounted on the free end of a lever 25 pivotally mounted on the body of the lighter so that when the thumb piece is rocked the roller rides along the cam surface 31 and the lever 25 is rocked to rotate the wick cap 22 to which it is connected by a link 27 ; a one way clutch between the flint wheel 16 and the wick cap causes the flint wheel to rotate. A spring 33 mounted on the pivot pin of the lever 25 returns the parts to the closed position of the lighter ; alternatively, a return spring may be associated with the wick cap 22. The cam surface 31 may be curved or parallel to the outer surface of the thumb piece. The flint wheel 16 is disposed within a pocket 23 formed by the wick cap 22 and a pair of side plates 15 and a roller 24 freely housed within the pocket 23 becomes wedged between the wick cap and the friction wheel when the wick cap opens.
