Abstract

619,824. Frictional lighters. BENEY (1938), Ltd., and LEWIN, P. W. Dec. 30, 1946, No. 38059. [Class 75 (iii)] In a frictional lighter the friction wheel, flint and means for urging the flint into contact with the friction wheel are pivotally mounted as a unit on the lighter body about an axis at right angles to the rotational axis of the friction wheel so that when pressure is applied to the friction wheel or an operating member associated therewith the spark producing unit is rocked to release a spring- actioned cover. A friction wheel 22 and a serrated operating roll 23 are rotatably mounted in a recess 21 in a member 18 which is shaped as an inverted L and contains a bore in its horizontal part 25 housing a spring-urged flint. The member 18 is pivoted in a recess 17 in the lighter body by means of a pivot pin 19, a spring-pressed plunger 20 urging it to rotate clockwise so that a hook on the member 18 is held in engagement with an aperture in the cover 14. The cover 14 is unlatched bv rocking the member 18 and is rotated into the open position by a spring- pressed plunger. Movement of the member 18 is limited by a pin thereon engaging the wick nipple.
