Abstract

583,773. Pyrophoric lighters. LOWENTHAL, B. Dec. 1, 1944, No. 24075. [Class 75 (iii)] In a pyrophoric lighter, a lever 13 carrying spring- pressed balls 33 engaging upwardly extending side plates 12 on the cover 2 of the fuel 1 container 1 turns a wick cap 15 about the frictionwheel. spindle 17 and rotates the frictionwheel 6 in contact with a spring-pressed flint 8 to ignite the wick 11. The lever 13 is connected at one end by pivots 16 to the' wick cap 15 and at the other end by a pivot 22 to a link 21 pivoted at 23 to the side plates 12. The pivot 22 is connected by a link 24 to a tube 26 which is slidable against the resistance of a spring 28 in a tube 27 screwed to the cover 2. The springs engaging the balls 33 are mounted in recesses in the sides of a plate 20 which is secured to the lever 13 by a screw 19 and has a curved end engaging the upper end of the link 21. The friction wheel is provided on one side surface with ratchet teeth engaged by a resilient tooth on the wick cap so as to rotate in one direction only.
