Abstract

Lighting pipes, cigars, and the like by frictional devices. - A pyrophoric igniter comprises a packed reservoir a, a wicktube b, and a friction wheel d operated by a spring - controlled pivoted lever adapted to be pressed and released by the finger, a tube f containing the pyrophoric material being fixed above the friction wheel. In one form, a V-shaped lever i is pivoted concentrically to the friction wheel d and carries a spring pawl k, engaging teeth on the friction wheel. The tube f is preferably fixed or formed integrally with the standards e supporting the friction wheel d, and the usual coiled spring within the tube is preferably fixed to the cap g, or plug closing the upper end of the tube. The friction wheel may consist of two toothed disks d<1>, Fig. 5, inclined to the supporting shaft d<2> and parallel to or inclined at an angle to one another. The cover of the igniter may be circular in cross-section and secured by means of a bayonet fastening.
