[Class 75 (iii)] A lighter head for attachment to a fuel container provided with a wick comprises a casing consisting of relatively rotatable upper and lower parts 5, 1 connected by a spring 19, the upper part 5 forming a mounting for a spring- pressed clutch for rotating a toothed friction wheel 9 in contact with a flint disc 7 slidably mounted in the lower part 1, and supported by a spring 28. The spring-pressed clutch is enclosed in a sleeve 18 and consists of a disc 13 having radial lugs 14 engaging slots 15 in the upper part of the casing and having a neck 16 formed with ratchet teeth 17 engaging ratchet teeth 12 on a neck 11 on the wheel 9. The clutch parts are normally held in engagement by a spring 24 surrounding a screw 241 connecting the wheel 9 to the casing cover 23. The lower part 1 may be provided with flanges 2 engaging under lips 3 on the fuel container 4. The spring 19 is tensioned by rotating the upper part 5 by means of a lever 25. When the lever 25 is released the spring rotates the friction wheel to produce sparks which are discharged through an opening 26 in the lower part 1 to ignite the wick. The lighter may be provided with a lid having a catch normally engaging a recessed projection 30 on the side of the upper part 5 so that a slight rotation of the part 5 releases the lid which is then raised by a spring, when the lid is closed the catch slides down an inclined surface 32 into a holding groove 31. In another construction the screw 241 passes through the flint wheel into the bottom of the part 1.
