Abstract

276,253. Franks, C. L. March 3, 1927. Pocket igniters, frictional. - In an igniter of the kind described in Specification 257,411, the operating mechanism is arranged in a recess formed by an extension or flange 8 on the petrol or like container 1, a preferably hinged cover 29, preferably provided with an embossed flange 30, being adapted to engage over the upper edge of the flange 8 to enclose the operating mechanism. The hinged cover 29 is held in the open and closed positions by a roller 33, which is carried by a spring plate 35 or the like and engages a cam 32 or the like provided on the hinge-pin 28 or on the interior of the cover. The wick-tube 16 is surrounded by an apertured wind-shield 25 cut away at 27 to receive the friction-wheel 14. A container 40 for a spare supply of fuel is provided with a stopper 41 and is adapted to screw into one end of the bottom plate 6, the other end of which is provided with a screw-threaded filling opening 2. The head 39 of the container 40 and the head 5 of the screw-cap 3 of the filling opening 2 have a diameter slightly larger than the width of, and fit into cut-away portions of, the plate so that they can be readily manipulated by the fingers. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 279,163.
