Abstract
1356150 Gas-fuelled lighter ETABS GENOUD & CIE 7 Oct 1971 [15 Oct 1970] 46631/71 Heading F4F A gas-fuelled cigarette lighter comprises a hinged cap 13 whose pivot pin 14 is carried by the cap allowing translation of the axis of pin 14 relative to the lighter body 1 during opening and closing movements of cap 13 which covers the upper surface of the body 1 when closed, Fig. 1, and is biased against the body 1 by a spring 15 when the cap 13 is moved to its open position (generally perpendicular to the top of body 1 as shown in Fig. 6), and a cranked lever 20 pivotally mounted to body 1 at 19 and operatively connected to pin 14 and a gas outlet valve 9, 10 to open and close the valve when cap 13 is opened and closed, respectively. Distance x between pin 14 and the top of body 1 is greater than distance y between pin 14 and end face 21 of the cap so that opening of cap 13 to the position of Fig. 6 causes pin 14 to depress a crankpin 20a of lever 20, thus rotating the lever 20 and raising another crankpin 20b at the opposite end thereof to open the valve 9, 10. When cap 13 is closed, the pressure on crankpin 20a is removed so that a return spring can reclose the gas outlet valve 9, 10. During opening and closing, the pin 14 can follow a vertical end surface 16 of a covering plate 11 and is retained by a spring 15 anchored to the lighter body 1. A flint 5 is urged by a torsion spring 6 against a thumb-operated flint wheel 4 to ignite gas fed by a compressible wick 8 via a pressure-varying valve device 7.
