Abstract

1,066,942. Gas lighters. COLIBRI LIGHTERS Ltd. April 1, 1964 [April 16, 1963; Dec. 10, 1963], Nos. 14880/63 and 48751/63. Heading F4F. A gas lighter has a reservoir 3 within outer casing 1 having a cover 7 pivoted at 7a, gas issuing from a valve 15 being lit by a flint mechanism 4, 5, 6, 6a; a lever 8 pivoted at 9 to an inner casing 2 slidable into casing 1, has a nose 10 acted on by a spring 11 to press a nose 14 against a cup 12 fixed to cover 7 to hold the cover closed and when the cover is opened manually the cup engages nose 14 to rotate the lever 8 past a dead-centre position to finally hold the cover open. The lever 8 has an extension 17 carrying a spring biased ball 22 to act on plunger 16 to hold the valve 15 closed when the cover is closed. With the cover open, the lever 8 can be manually rotated to close valve 15 whilst the lighter is serviced. A leaf spring 13 wrapped around lever 8 acts between the cup and lever to firmly press nose 14 against the cup to prevent the cover rattling. The reservoir 3 is slidably mounted in casing 2 and is held therein by a protruding rim 28 of a filler valve 27 extending into an opening 29 in casing 2, the easing being made resilient by slots 31-to allow the rim to pass into opening 29. In other embodiments the extension is moulded into lever 8 and can carry a spring biased piston instead of ball 22; the extension may also be a leaf spring or a spring loaded lever pivoted to lever 8; and the spring 13 may be fixed to the cup.
