Abstract
1,057,811. Gas lighters. LA NATIONALE S.A., and RONSON CORPORATION. July 23, 1963 [July 27, 1962], No. 29077/63. Heading F4F. A gas-fuelled cigarette lighter comprises a plastics casing 1 enclosing a fuel reservoir 7 and a main recess 3 housing a gas burner and its associated ignition mechanism. The burner is formed by a tube 4 having a flattened bent part 5 acting as a shut-off valve and passing through an aperture 6 to the reservoir 7. The tube 4 is engaged by the end 14, of a plastics operating lever 8 pivoted by trunnions 9, in vertical slots 12 of the recess 3 and having one end 13 extending outside the casing 1 and a spring blade 15 bearing against the cover member 16. The latter has a rib (25), Fig. 2 (not shown), on its bent-over edge, which is received in a groove on the casing 1. The casing 1 has a recess for a flint spring (18) one curved end of which urges a flint (20) in a recess (19) against a flint wheel (22) which rotates on a spigot integral with the casing (1). The spigot (23) has a central filling aperture (24) Fig. 4 (not shown), closed by a plastics plug and communicating with the reservoir (7). In another form of lighter, Fig. 5 (not shown), a plate (30) is stuck or welded in a recess in the open end of a casing (29) and carries a burner (31). A cover member (32) is welded or stuck to the casing (29) and carries a flint wheel (36), a lever (33) having a resilient spring part (34) bearing against the top of the plate (30) and a flint and flint spring, which are housed in a blind bore in the cover member (32). Each of the described lighters may be fitted with a filling valve on the reservoir. In a modification, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown) the flint is urged by a coil spring and a spring head against the flint wheel. The spring head has a vertical projection which is engaged by a triangular recess in a horizontally pivoted cover member. On pivoting the cover member to uncover the flint; the projection engages the edges of the recess and the flint spring is compressed away from the flint.
