Abstract

1422824 Gas-fuelled lighters ETABS GENOUD & CIE 28 June 1973 [10 July 1972] 30909/73 Heading F4F A gas-fuelled lighter comprises a body portion 1b in screw-threaded engagement with a head portion and containing a fuel reservoir having an outlet channel 2 the cross-sectional area of which is varied by relative rotation of the head and body portions and which is closed by a pivoted actuating lever 3 of the lighter, the lever also having a burner orifice 4 therein in off-set relationship to the channel 2 and sealing means being provided whereby on operation of the lever escape of fuel other than through orifice 4 is prevented. An ignition mechanism 20 is mounted on the head portion. Channel 2 is formed in a deformable member 6 and is closed by a needle valve 5 of lever 3. The sealing means may comprise co-operating flanges and grooves formed on lever 3 and the head portion and defining a labyrinth passage for gas flow to the burner orifice. In a modification the sealing means comprises a gasket positioned between a projection surrounding the channel outlet and a flange depending from the lever. The lever 3 may be pivoted on the shaft 19 of a flint wheel 20 and a porous member 17 may be located in the gas flow path.
