Abstract

376,860. Frictional pocket igniters. SCHIEDER, K., 9, Markgrafenstrasse, Nuremberg, Germany. April 27, 1931, No. 12432. [Class 75 (iii).] In a pocket cigarette lighter of the type having a rigid casing 1 the parts for effecting the ignition are mounted on a frame 11 which is inserted as a whole through one side of the casing and secured by screws 37. The petrol container 5 is then inserted below the frame 11 so that the wick is positioned opposite a cut-out portion 2 of the casing and a cover 3 provided with air-holes 4 is secured over the open side of the casing. The frame 11 comprises an upper wall 35 and lateral walls 34 which are formed with ledges 20 acting as guides for a wick cap 17. The friction wheel 8 and a toothed wheel 14 having lateral teeth held in contact by a spring are mounted on pins 12 on the frame. A pusher 26 projecting through the top of the frame and casing may be depressed to turn a toothed segment 23 about a pin 24 on the frame and thereby rotate the friction wheel 8 and raise the wick cap against the resistance of springs 30, 21. A flint 7 is pressed against the friction wheel by a spring 9 bearing at its lower end against a screw 10. The head of the screw 10 closes a tube 40 provided in the reservoir for the storage of flints. The parts attached to the frame 11 are brought into the position shown in Fig. 4 before insertion in the casing and the head 29 of the pusher is screwed on after insertion.
