v UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MATCH BOX.
Application filed November 2, 1925, Serial No. 66,388, and in Germany July 22, 1924.
The present invention refers generally to improvements in illumination and more particularly relates to a cigar lighter.
The invention as its primary aim and object contemplates the provision of a lighter of the above character constructed to resemble a cartridge shell of two parts one art of which 'receives a container for the iquid and ignition means while the other part acts as a closure.
As an additional and equally important object the invention resides in t e provision of an igniter of the above character wherein ignition means of improved construction 15 mounted on both of the parts of the shelllike casing so that when one part is moved relative to the other a spark is produced for eflectin an ignition of the wick.
Other ob ects as well as the nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will be more readily apparent from the following description taken in connection with the drawings and pointed out in the claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a side elevational view partly in seciion showing one form of the invention, an
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view showing another form, the parts being shown in extended position.
Similar characters of references are employed in all of the above described views to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now, more particularly, to the accompanying drawings there is provided a shell-like casing including a cap-like section or part 0 having a reduced portion 7) said section or part receiving a fuel receptacle 0 40 the latter being fitted with a wick e and igniter f while the other part 9 of the casing is constructed to simulate a charge containing portion of a shell but in reality acts as a closure for removable engagement with the reduced portion 1) of the part a. In use it is only necessary to remove the part 9 and turn the wheel of the igniter f to produce a spark to ignite the wick '6. Subsequently a replacement of the part 9 serves to extinguish the wick when the device is in condition for being carried in the pocket or like of the user.
In Fig. 2 the cap-like section a acts as a closure for the section g which is constructed to simulate a charge receiving portion of a shell and has the inner end reduced as at .b' and constructed hollow to receive the reducing element n which may be for instance formed of p ro horic material. The element m is yielding y held at one end of the passageway Z an in yielding contact with the serrated surface'of the arm h by suitable expansion means such as a coiled spring n. When using this form of the invention it will be apparent that upon the raising of the cap I) sliding frictional contact between the serrated surface of the arm 72. and the spark reducing element m a spark is produced to ignite the wick e. Subsequently the spark is extinguished upon the pressing of the cap.
It is believed in view of the foregoing that a further detailed description of the opera tion of the invention is entirely unnecessary. Likewise it is believed that the advantages of the invention will be readily apparent.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is A cigar lighter of the character described, including a casing resembling a cartridge shell and constructed in two parts, a fuel container mounted in one of said parts and projecting outwardly therefrom and provided with a transverse passageway, a wick in the fuel container. the other part acting as a cover. a serrated arm extending from the cover part and slidably received between the inner wall of the other part and the outer wall of the container, a spark producing element slidably and resiliently mounted in the passageway and yieldingly contacting with the serrated portion of the arm so that when the cover part and armare withdrawn a spark is produced, and the cover part of the casing bein removabiy engaged about the container w en in a closed contacting position with respect to the other part of 10 the casing. I
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
RICHARD SZEKERES.
