' rooxn'r Application filed February '19, 1926, Serial This invention relates to improvements in portable igniters adapted for use in lighting cigars, etc, and the main object of the invention is to provide such an igniter with a self 3 fuel filler.
Another object of the invention is to provide such an igniter with an absorbent agent that will allow a free flow of fuel to the wick.'
A further object of the invention is to rovide means for operating the flint engagmg wheel without any fear of burning the fingers or breaking the thumb-nail.

Referring to the drawings in detail 5 indicates the igniter as a whole, comprising a body portion 6 provided at the upper end thereof with a wick guide 7 through which a wick 8 may be inserted and maintained in proper position for use when required. A cap 9 pivoted at 10 may be employed to protect the wick when not in use. The cap 9 is pivoted on the upper portion of a tubular magazine 11 fixed to the body 6 in which may be stored pellets 12 of flint that are supported on a spring 14 whose tension is adjusted by a screw 15that screws into the bottom of the magazine and exerts a pressure on an ear 16 of the cap 9 and tends to maintain the cover or cap 9 in open or closed position as the case may be. There is also fixed to the body 6 a tubular container 17 in which is contained a flint pellet 18 that is pressed upwardly against the corrugated surface of a steel wheel 19 which may be operated for producing a spark to ignite the wick 8 by turning thumb nut 21 on a shaft 20 upon which the wheel 19 is fixedly mounted. The pellet 18 is maintained in constant engagement with the wheel 19 by a spring 22 that is tensioned by a screw 23 at the lower end of the container 17 a part of this LIGHTER.

When it is desired to fill the igniter with fuel, the cap 30 is removed by unscrewing same from the nipple 29, and the nipple is inserted into the fuel and the body portion 6 is drawn upwardly with one hand while the chamber 26 is held with the other hand. The fuel will be sucked up through the open ing 29 and will open the valve 27 by raising a ball 31 off its seat and will enter the chamber 26 to be absorbed by the absorbing agents 24 and led up to the wick 8 which will become saturated with the fuel and be ready for ignition when required. It will be noted that the ball valve will prevent any of-the fuel from oozing or leaking out from the igniter.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have produced an improved cigar lighter provided with a self filler, a wick protecting cap that will be positively held in open or closed position and means for igniting the lighter without danger of burning the fingers or breaking the thumb-nail.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1s:
1. An igniter of the class described comprising a body, a wick extending from the body, spark producing means, fuel absorbing and storing means and self-filling means.
2. An igniter of the class described comprising a body, a wick extending from the body, spark producing means, fuel absorbing and storing means, self-filling means, and'a thumb nut associated with the spark producing means adapted to operate said spark producing means.
3. An igniter of the class described comprising a body, a wick extending from the body, spark producing means, fuel absorb- IOI - er adapt ing and storing means, self-filling means, and a normally closed valve associated with the self-filling means adapted when opened to admit fuel into the i iter.
