Abstract
560,296. Closures for bottles etc.; pyrophoric cigar &c. lighters. COTTON, D. M. Sept. 2, 1942, Nos. 12417 and 14219. [Class 125 (iii)] [Also in Group XI] A closure member suitable for application to disused glass or metal bottles or like containers carries a wick, flint, and friction wheel so as to enable the bottle to be used as a cigar or cigarette lighter. Fig. 1 shows a standard screw cap 1 formed with two holes, one to receive a wick sleeve 4 and the other to receive a tubular holder 6 carrying a friction wheel 7 and a spring-pressed flint adjusted by a screw 12. The cap may be of metal or plastic material and may be reinforced by a plate 9. The bottle 13 is preferably packed with absorbent material to absorb the fuel spirit. A cover 10 may be pushed or threaded over the cap. Fig. 7 shows a holder 14 drilled to receive the wick and igniter elements and provided with projections or a flange 15 by which it is secured to the neck of a bottle by a screw cap 1<1>. In another construction the friction wheel may be operated on releasing a spring-opened cover or a spring- controlled lever carrying a snuffer or wick cap. One Provisional Specification states that the holder may be tapered so as to be a push fit in the neck of a bottle.
