Abstract

603,504. Pyrophoric lighters. LEON. M. Oct. 22, 1945, No. 27738. [Class 75(iii)] The casing of a smoker's lighter has a channel sectioned end wall 25 which when rocked about a pivot 26 against the resistance of a spring 30 operates the lighter lid 16 through pin-and-slot connections 29, 28 and thereby turns a friction-wheel 13 to produce sparks for igniting a wick. The fuel reservoir consists of two close-fitting telescoping sections 8a, 8b having a push fit into the casing and the flint tube 6 is secured by a clip 7 in a socket formed by inturned members on the side walls of the casing. The lid 16 is pivoted on the friction wheel spindle 14 and is fitted at its forward end with a frictionally retained plate 18 carrying a wick-sealing cap 19. A blade spring carried by the lid is formed with two fingers, one engaging beneath the rear edge of the lid and the other forming a detent for engaging a ratchet wheel 23 fast with the friction wheel 13. The upper part of the casing may be perforated to form a storm shield for the flame and the lower part may be cut away at 11 to expose a ribbed portion 12 of the fuel reservoir.
