494,331. Frictional igniters ; torches. GOTTLIEB, M., and AMATOUNY, K. Jan. 21, 1937, Nos. 1790, 1791, and 1792. Void. Convention dates, Jan. 21, 1936, Oct. 14, 1936, and Nov. 20, 1936. [Class 75 (iii)] An asbestos-wick torch 4, Fig. 1, is normally inserted in a tube 2, containing absorbent material 3, in a fuel reservoir 1 and is inverted in the tube 2 for ignition by means of a frictionwheel, electric or other igniter 8. In a modified torch, Fig. 4, a looped feed wick 9 projects from asbestos fibre 5 through a disc into wadding 7. In modifications, the wick torch is open at the bottom to fit detachably over a tubular projection 10, on the reservoir 1, containing asbestos fibre 10a with a looped feed wick 10b dipping into the fuel, the igniter being separate from, or formed in one with, the torch. In the form shown in Fig. 7, levers 14 are adapted to be actuated by the thumb and finger holding the torch 4, to depress a spring-pressed casing 11 carrying a catch lever 12 for actuating the igniter. The igniter may be adapted to be actuated automatically on removing the torch. The reservoir 1 may be provided with a filling plug having an air opening.
