Abstract

743,386. Frictional lighters. ZIPPO MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 17, 1953 [May 1, 1953], No. 31838/53. Class 75(3). The protector of a lighter which protects the flint wheel 20 from the flame comprises a U-shaped member 30a interposed between the wick 15 and the wheel 20 so as to enclose the portion of the flint wheel exposed to the flame, the limbs of the member 30a being held against rotation as by brazing or soldering to portions 23 of the windscreen 22 extended about the flint 19 or by flanges 29 on the limbs. engaging the edges of the portions 23. The sides of the protector 30a extend below the level of the base of the flame and the rear wall is provided with a cut-out portion 34 which enables the sparks to reach the wick, and is curved vertically to conform to the curvature of the wheel. Alternatively the lower edge of the protector may be on a level with the base of the flame on the wick. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 694,826.
