Abstract
585,239. Pyrophoric lighters. SILBERSTEIN, V. Oct. 25, 1944, No. 20766. [Class 75 (iii)] In a smoker's lighter the oscillation of a troughshaped lever 15 pivoted at 16 to the fuel chamber 11 against the pressure of a spring 17 reciprocates a piston 2 in a cylinder 1 below the fuel chamber and forces a stream of air through a duct 6 to a nozzle 7 to project the flame from a wick 9 through a hole 13 in the wind shield 12 where a pipe may conveniently be lighted. Ignition of the wick is effected by pressing a push-piece 20 to allow a hinged cover 18 to be raised by a spring 19, the cover 18 carrying a slotted member 32 engaging an arm 29 pivoted on the spindle of an abrading wheel 24 and carrying a pawl engaging ratchet teeth on the side of the abrading wheel. The abrading wheel engages a spring-pressure flint in a tube 35. A slide 42 covers the recess for the flint adjusting screw 37 and filling-aperture plug 38.
