Abstract
585,185. Pyrophoric lighters. FLORMAN, I. Sept. 29, 1944, No. 18703. Convention date, March 17. [Class 75 (iii)] The body of a cigarette lighter is formed from a single approximately rectangular metal sheet bent to form a tubular fuel tank 12 and a flint tube 13 connected by webs 14, the abutting ends of the sheet being held together by a tubular clip 33 and the abutting webs 13 being covered by a spring liner 30. A metal disc 22 formed with a wick opening 23 is secured in a groove in the upper part of the body and a cap or plug 29 engages a helical groove in the lower part of the body. The flint tube 13 is formed with parallel ears forming the bearing for the axle pin 48 of the flint wheel 47 and a snuffer member 50. The snuffer member 50 consists of a sheet metal box 51 having spaced perforated ears 52 to engage the axle pin 48 and formed with bent bottom flanges gripping a cylindrical snuffer element 60 at a groove 61. The ears 52 are formed with serrations 63 to engage the thumb of the operator when the friction wheel is being turned to produce a spark at the flint 40. The ears are also slit radially as at 54 and the metal flared laterally to engage resiliently the webs 14.
