Abstract

656,204. Frictional igniters. BATE, B. DIXON-. Aug. 29, 1949, No. 20681. '[Class 75(iii)] To facilitate pipe-lighting a pyrophoric lighter is additionally provided with a vaporizing tube b, the upper apertured end of which is heated by the flame of the wick a while its lower end is in communication with the fuel space, said tube b being mounted in and spaced from an insulating tube c so that it is rapidly heated when the wick a is ignited, whereupon combustible vapour issues from its aperture and is, lit by the wick flame. The tube b may contain absorbent material and is preferably curved over the wick. The tube c does not communicate with the fuel space and its flame aperture is arranged in the side thereof. The wick cap covers both the wick and the tube.
