1426566 Lighters COLIBRI LIGHTERS Ltd 5 March 1974 [5 March 1973] 10475/73 Heading F4F A cigarette lighter comprises a body 7, in which a flame orientation adjustment mechanism is controlled by a slide 13 located in a recess 14, the slide terminating at the upper edge of the body in the rest position, but extending beyond the edge when moved upwardly to change the flame orientation. The fuel may be ignited by a flint wheel 11 actuated by a serrated cylinder 10, Fig. 3, or by a piezo-electric spark ignition mechanism actuated by pivoting the lid 8a, Fig. 6. The burner valve comprises a tube 15, Fig. 7, and a relatively slidable outer tube 17, 18, connected to slide 13 by lugs 24. In the lower position of slide 13, gas is discharged through tube 15, and out through an aperture 19 into the annular space between part 18 and burner 9, and rises as an annular stream which burns with a vertical flame, Fig. 2 (not shown). If slide 13 is raised, tube 17, 18, moves upwardly so that hole 19 is clear of the top of burner 9 and the gas stream is discharged horizontally through aperture 19. The slide is released and is subsequently returned to the lower position by a spring 20. In the Fig. 6 embodiment a catch may be provided to hold lid 8a in the operative position whilst the thumb manipulates slide 13.
