Abstract

1379300 Gas lighters ISHIMITSU KINZOKU KOGYO KK 18 Jan 1972 [26 May 1971 9 July 1971] 2262/72 Heading F4F A gas lighter includes a liquid fuel tank 38 for storing liquefied gas, a burner body 21 including a nozzle body 22 having a nozzle 20 at which a gas jet can be formed, gas flow adjusting means including a screw 34, an adjustment plunger 29 and a filter 27 to adjust the flow of gas to the nozzle 20, a capillary gap 35 in the fuel flow path between the gas flow adjusting means and a liquid fuel accumulation chamber 36 such that, in use, gas flowing to the adjusting means comes from liquid fuel held by capillary action in the capillary gap, and an opening 37 in the burner body, which opening connects the chamber 36 and the fuel tank 38, the arrangement being such that with the lighter disposed upright the capillary gap 35 is located above the chamber 36. A lighter constructed in accordance with the invention is said to burn with a constant flame irrespective of the inclination of the lighter body. The nozzle body 22 is urged into gas-sealing contact with a rubber stopper 24. When a cap of the lighter is opened, spring fingers raise the nozzle body to allow a flow of gas to the nozzle 20. The fuel tank 38 is provided with a liquid fuel injecting valve 39. Spark generation mechanism.-The gas lighter is provided with a spark generation mechanism including a piezoelectric element 2, a hammer 4 for impacting the piezoelectric element to generate gas ignition sparks, a cylindrical wheel 1, and an actuation device responsive to the turning of the wheel about its axis to cause impacting of the hammer on the piezoelectric element by initially displacing the hammer axially of the wheel against spring loading by means of a cam and then releasing the hammer to enable the spring loading to cause the hammer to impact the piezoelectric element. As shown, the hammer 4 has a projection 12 which locates in a cam groove 14 formed between an axiallymovable upper cam ring 13 and a lower cam ring 13<SP>1</SP> fixed to the wheel 1. A spring 18 provides spring loading for the hammer. A spark line 10 is provided the spark generation mechanism includes a protecting case 3 located in the lighter case 7; a support case 5 of the spark generation mechanism is provided with a projection 6 which locates in an opening 17 of a cover hood 8.
