Abstract

609,139. Frictional igniters. HUTCHINSON, L., BRISTOW, F. C., and BINKS, F. W. March 6, 1946, No. 7018. [Class 75(iii)] In a lighter a channel-sectioned lever 9 pivoted at 10 to the fuel reservoir 1 is slotted at 22 to engage a pin 20 on a bifurcated lever 15 which carries a wick cap 16 and is pivoted on a spindle 12 carrying the friction wheel 11. The sides of the lever 9 are slotted at 17 to pass over the spindle 12. Pressure on the end 30 of the lever 9 raises the wick cap against the resistance of a spring 26 and a leaf spring, carried by the lever 15 rotates the wheel 11 to produce sparks at a flint 7 for igniting the wick 5. The fuel reservoir may be provided with a perforated extension 35 to act as a windshield. The levers 9, 15 and wheel 11 form a complete unit detachably mounted on the lighter body by screws secured to the ends of the pivots 10, 12.
