Abstract

1,046,741. Gas lighters. SOC. ANON. SAMAO. July 1, 1964 [July 2, 1963], No. 27125/64. Heading F4F. A gas lighter comprises a flame extinguisher 7 rigid with an arm 7a pivoted at 1d to the body 1 and an elastic blade 8, which at one end bears on the arm 7a so that the extinguisher is urged either open or closed, and which at the other end has an aperture 8a through which the nozzle 5 of an adjustable burner valve 6 extends and is secured by a clip 19, so that as the extinguisher is opened so depressing the one end of the blade, the blade itself rocks about a lateral fold and the other end of the blade lifts the nozzle 5 and allows gas to flow therethrough. Ignition of the gas is obtained by means of a flint 10 and a knurled wheel 9. The nozzle 5 is lifted by the blade 8 against spring action, away from a packing 16, Fig. 4 (not shown), to allow gas to flow. The valve 6 is adjusted by means of a lever (not shown) carried by a ring 11 which screws a socket 12 into an outer socket 13 to vary the pressure exerted by the socket 12 on a dish 15 carrying a packing 14, and hence to vary the diameter of an axial gas passage in the packing.
