939,182. Gas lighters. R. MOHR, and H. H. QUANDT. Dec. 17, 1959 [Dec. 20, 1958 ; March 3, 1959 ; Sept. 2, 1959], No. 21918/63. Divided out of 939,181. Class 75 (3). A gas lighter comprises a fuel container 4 containing liquefied gas under pressure and a gas channel, a tube 1 extending from an inlet within the container to an outlet outside the container where the gas is ignited, an absorbent thread 6 being disposed in the channel and compressed in a restricted zone of the channel, the inlet to the gas channel and the inner end of the thread being located when the container is held with the gas channel uppermost above the liquid in the container whereby when the container is inverted the inner end of the absorbent thread comes into direct contact with the liquid in the container while when the container is upright it is fed only by gaseous fuel above the level of the liquid in the container. An enlarged flame is obtained by inverting the lighter. The tube 1 passes through a flexible membrane 17 and a washer 19 sealing the lower end of the burner head 9. A part 2 on the tube screws into the container 4. Depressing one end of a lever 30, which pivots in the lighter head part 24 and has a forked end engaging an annular groove 10 on the burner head, causes the external body 5 to rise from an internal body 12 which rises under gas pressure displacing a flexible seating disc 15 in the body 12 from the end of the tube and allows the gas to escape into the chamber between the bodies and fine aperture 11 where a spark from a flint 27 ignites it. A pin 8 in the tube prevents gas collecting therein. A screw 36 at one end of the lever acts as a limiting stop. The friction wheel 32 and two driving wheels 33 are mounted on the lever.
