Abstract

1,082,683. Gas fuelled cigarette lighters. LA NATIONALE S.A., and RONSON CORPORATION. Feb. 28, 1964 [March 1, 1963], No. 8255/63. Heading F4F. A gas-fuelled cigarette lighter comprises a burner valve 23, Fig. 2, mounted in body 1 which has a stub axle 5 for a flint wheel 20, spring clutch 19, and actuating member 14, and a finger piece 11 pivoted to body 1 about an axis at right-angles to that of axle 5 and partly mounted in recesses in body side 10. A groove 8 in the body contains flint 8b and spring 8a and the burner valve 23 is positioned in groove 7. The member 14 has a cam surface 17, made resilient by a cut 24, co-operating with the stem of the valve 23. Finger piece 11 has an integral spring 12 and a spigot 13 engaged in a groove, Fig. 3, not shown, in the underside of member 14. Body 1 has a base 2 with a filling valve 2a and has a plate 21 mounted by a screw 22 to hold the flint wheel, flint &c. in position, the end of spring 8a engaging in a recess 26 in this plate so that on rotation of the plate to expose the flint the spring pressure is relieved. In operation, fingerpiece 11 is pivoted toward body 1 and causes, through spigot 13, member 14 and wheel 20 to rotate, the cam surface 17 moving off the burner to allow the valve stem to rise. In Figs. 4-7, not shown, a ball on the actuating member is engaged by the fingerpiece and a spring lever is raised by a cam on the actuating member to open a burner valve which is adjustable to vary the length of flame.
