Abstract

1,046,855. Gas lighters. LA NATIONALE S.A. and RONSON CORPORATION. July 24, 1963 [July 27, 1962], No. 28919/62. Heading F4F. A gas burner valve for a liquid-fuelled cigarette lighter comprises an open-ended cylindrical bore 2 and a valve member axially movable in the bore 2, and having at its inner end a resilient shut-off disc 12 adapted to seal an aperture 5 in the base of the bore 2, and an annulus 13 of plastic foam arranged under pressure between a conical base portion 3 of the bore 2 and the part conical surface 10 of the valve member. The valve member is sealed in the bore 2 by an 0-ring 9 accommodated in a groove 8 in the valve member. The aperture 5 is surrounded by a raised seat 6 and a well 4 below the annulus 13. The resilient disc 12 is biased against the seat 6 by the forked end 16 of a pivoted plastic control device 17, Fig. 2 (not shown), which engages a groove 15 of the valve member and has an integral projection 22, acting as a spring and located in a slot 23 in the lighter casing. The downward movement of the fingerpiece 21 of the control device 17 separates the seat 6 and the resilient disc 12 and is limited by a screwed stud 24 in the lighter casing. The bore 2 is formed in a recess in the wall of the fuel reservoir or may be a separate part screwed into the reservoir wall.
