Abstract

998,782. Gas lighters. T. IKETANI. July 13, 1962 [Aug. 30, 1961; Sept. 21, 1961], No. 27059/62. Heading F4F. [Also in Division G3] A gas burner device for a lighter having a porous element 4 subject to variable compression to control the fuel flow to the burner nozzle comprises a fuel passage 10 communicating the nozzle with the element 4 so as to cause fuel to flow through the element substantially across the direction of compression. The element 4 fits over a stem 13 and seats on a shoulder 12 of a support element 3 which has an axial passage 14 communicating, via the passage 10, with the outer wall of the stem 13. The porous element 4 is compressed by a member 2 screwed into a burner casing 1 which houses the support element 3. In operation, liquefied gas flows from a wick 5, through an aperture 11 in the casing 1 to a transverse groove 18 in the element 3 and through a spacing 12a around the support element 3 to the porous element 4. The exit from the passage 10 is controlled by a rubber packing 7 and a valve rod 6 actuated by the lighter cap. In a further embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown) a compressing element is placed between the movable member and the porous element and an axially apertured rubber packing is seated over the passage in the stem portion.
