Abstract

1,112,775. Gas lighters. A. RACEK. 12 July, 1965 [14 July, 1964], No. 29486/65. Heading F4F. A gas lighter has a pot-shaped casing part 2 in which is disposed a throttle communicating with the fuel reservoir 1 by a duct 16, and pushed against the end of the duct remote from the throttle is an absorbent, e.g. felt, disc 17. This disc may be retained in place by friction or by a disc 18 having peripheral gripping teeth 19. The throttle comprises a screw member 4 containing a spring loaded hollow valve stem 5 having at its lower end a plug 6 resting on a bored cup-shaped valve disc 8. Situated between the valve disc and the duct 16 are a porous throttle element 11, a rigid disc 18 and a second absorbent disc 14. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown) the absorbent disc 43 is retained in place between a groove 48 in the lighter casing and the flint tube 45. An elastic disc 37 in the snuffer cap 22 closes the burner tube 34. If the gas reservoir is of circular cross-section then the absorbent disc is preferably of hexagonal section having arcuate nicks of alternating direction of curvature, Fig. 4 (not shown), such that a larger part of its surface area is in contact with the liquid gas.
