Abstract

1,199,655. Gas lighter. ALFRED DUNHILL Ltd. 8 Aug., 1969 [8 May, 1968], No. 21792/68. Heading F4F. An operating mechanism for a gas fuelled non-automatic lighter comprises a manually rotatable roller 1 mounted on the outside of the lighter casing for actuating a flint wheel 3 to produce a spark, the roller 1 being axially movable to open or close a gas burner valve 6. The roller 1 has at its lower end an extension 7 slidably and rotatably supported in a socket 8 and having in its side wall an aperture housing a spring loaded ball 9 which engages with either of a pair of annular grooves 10, 11 in the side wall of the socket 8. The flint wheel 3 is non-rotatably mounted on a spigot 2 at the upper end of the roller 1 and an arm 5 mounted on the spigot 2 so as not to rotate therewith is engageable with the burner valve 6 to open it. In operation the roller is manually moved axially to open the valve 6 and rotated for the flint wheel to produce a spark to ignite the issuing gas.
