Abstract

963,252. Smokers' lighters. RONSON PRODUCTS Ltd. Oct. 14, 1960 [Oct. 28, 1959], No. 36617/59. Heading F4F. A lighter comprises an operating lever 10 pivoted by a pin 11 on the body 12 of the lighter and provided with toothed segments 14 engaging pinions 15 on a shaft 16 carrying a friction wheel 17 and a clutch-plate, the operating lever being urged to an inoperative position by a roller 28 on the end of a member 27 pivoted on an axis 32 and urged to rotate counterclockwise by a tension spring 29. The pivot pin 11 of the operating lever 10 bears in a slot in a bearing member 23 soldered to the lighter body 12 and in a second slot in a bracket 24 which abuts the lighter body and to which the member 27 is pivoted. The tension spring 29 extends between the spindle of the roller 28 and the pivot pin 11. Abutments on the bracket 24 and the pivotal member 27 limit the counterclockwise rotation of the pivotal member 27 to a position in which the angle a between the normal b to the operating lever 10 and the line c through the axis 32 of the pivotal member 27 is ten degrees. The lighter includes a gas reservoir 19, an inlet valve 20 and a burner valve 18. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the operating lever is mounted on the top of the lighter body.
