[Class 75 (iii).] The friction-wheel 3 is carried by the flint tube 2 which is displaceable against the action of the flint spring 13 and is provided with a shoulder 4 adapted normally to hold the pivoted spring-pressed wick-cap carrier 7 in the closed position .so that, on operating the wheel 3, the carrier 7 is automatically released and swung upwardly into the open position. In the form shown, the outer end of the spring 13 is connected to a nut 11 on an adjusting screw 10 rotatably mounted in a fixed socket 9 in which engages the end of the tube 2. The nut 11 is prevented from rotation in the tube 2 and moved longitudinally therein by rotating the screw for adjusting the spring or retracting the latter to give access to the flint through an opening in the tube 12. The shoulder 4 is recessed to allow the carrier 7 to move after a slight displacement of the shoulder. In a modification, the tube 2 is mounted directly on the top of the casing, which preferably constitutes substantially one wall of the tube, the socket 9 is replaced by a plate fixed adjacent the open end of the tube 2, and an operating wheel is fixed on the axle of the friction wheel in a recess formed by making the upper part of the casing narrower.
